Treatment of Interstitial Cystitis and Chronic Prostatitis - Phenotyping can help individualize therapy
Any urologist can tell you how frustrating it can be to treat patients with interstitial cystitis and chronic prostatitis. Although various therapies have been developed to treat these conditions, not all patients respond well to treatment, if they respond at all. Part of the problem has been the treatment philosophy that one size fits all. Current thinking now suggests that patients do not fit neatly into one treatment mold. "Patients with interstitial cystitis and chronic prostatitis are not a homogenous group of patients", says J Curtis
Nickel, MD, professor of urology at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. "Instead, they are a heterogeneous group having different etiologies, pathogenesis and different progression pathways."

A randomised controlled trial of the PelvicToner Device in female stress urinary incontinence
Pelvic floor muscle training (PFME) is first line treatment for female urinary incontinence, requiring a regime of regular voluntary pelvic floor contractions without resistance. The PelvicToner device (PTD) is an approach to PFME, enhancing pelvic floor strengthening and endurance by offering intravaginal resistance. The objective of this study was to compare standard PFME with PFME using the PTD.
